Principles of Operation of a class of Extruded Fasteners

Prosyma Research Ltd report to Cedar Supplies Ltd.

S F Bush

Summary

In early June the writer was engaged to analyse and realise in physical form, basic ideas for an extruded fastening device as described in two UK Patent Applications in the name of P M Robson.

Following an initial analysis of the principles which must underpin such a device, detailed designs were evolved in consultation with Mr Robson. From these, two extrusion dies were made, one each for the male and female elements of the fastener (drawings E to H attached).

This report outlines the original analysis. The results are presented in graphical form to demonstrate how the design must vary as the material, and assumed insert and outsert loads are changed by the application specification.
